MAR MATHEW MAKIL

Mar Mathew Makil(1851-1914) born on 10.04.1851, was appointed as Vicar General for the Southists in the vicariate of Kottayam in1889. In 1890 he was appointed as the Vicar Apostolic of Changanassery. In 1911 a new Vicariate Apostolic of Kottayam was constituted exclusively for the Knanaya Catholics and Mar Mathew Makil was transferred to Kottayam as Vicar Apostolic and he died at Kottayam on 20.01.1914

MAR ALEXANDER CHOOLAPPARAMBIL

Mar Alexander Choolapparambil (1877-1951) born on 14.10.1877, was appointed as the vicar Apostolic of Kottayam on 16th July, 1914 by his Holiness Pop St.Pius. When the Syro-Malabar hierarchy was constituted on December 21, 1923, he became the Bishop of Kottayam. He died on January 8, 1951.

MAR THOMAS THARAYIL (FOUNDER PATRON)

Mar Thomas Tharayil (1899-1975) was born on May 5, 1899 and appointed Co-Adjutor Bishop of Kottayam on 9th June, 1945 by his Holiness Pop Pius XII. At the demise of Mar Alexander Choolapparampil he became the Bishop of Kottayam on January 8,1951. As an educationist, during his episcopacy two colleges -BCM Kottayam and St.Stephen’s Uzhavoor -were established. It was his vision to establish an English Medium School at Peermade and started it in 1966.

MAR KURIAKOSE KUNNACHERRY

Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry was born on 11th September 1928 and appointed Co-Adjustor Bishop of Kottayam on 9th December 1967. At the retirement of Mar Thomas Tharayil., he took charge of the Diocese of Kottayam on 5th May, 1974. On 9th May,2005, the Major Archbishop Mar Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil appointed Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry as the first metropolitan of the newly erected Metropolitan see of Kottayam.

MAR MATHEW MOOLAKKATT (PATRON)

Mar Mathew Moolakkat osb, born on February 27, 1953, is the Patron of Mariagiri. He was the former Boarding Rector and headmaster of Mariagiri School . On 28th December, 1998 he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam. Later on 15th August 2003, His holiness Pop John Paul II appointed him as Co-Adjutor Bishop of the Eparchy of Kottayam. At the retirement of Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, he took over the charge as the Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Kottayam on 14th January 2006.

MAR JOSEPH PANDARASSERIL

Mar Joseph Pandarasseril born on 18th April, 1961 was appointed the Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Kottayam By the Syro-Malabar Synod on 21st September 2006.
